I Built an AI Employee to Run My Inbox — Here's What Happened

After 120+ hours wasted on email every month, I built an AI that actually sends follow-ups. Not just drafts. Actual sends.

I used to spend 2.5 hours every day on email. That's 120+ hours per month. That's a full-time work week gone, just to a gray interface.

I tried everything. Snooze buttons. Labels. Filters. Superhuman. Shortwave. They all helped me organize my inbox. None of them helped me empty it.

So I built HalfDay.

The core insight: Most AI email tools draft responses. They leave the human to actually send. That's still 90% of the work. I wanted an AI that executes — one that sends follow-ups, tracks conversations, and keeps deals moving without me in the loop.

What I Built

HalfDay is an autonomous AI employee that runs your inbox while you sleep. It does three things:

Inbox Triage — Reads your unread emails, categorizes them by action needed, and archives the noise. Only surfaces what actually matters.
Autonomous Follow-ups — Identifies stalled conversations and sends follow-ups on your behalf. Not drafts. Sent emails.
Morning Briefing — Every morning at 7am, gets a digest of what happened overnight, what needs attention, and what deals moved forward.
Demo Mode — Try it instantly without connecting your actual email. See how it thinks and decides before you commit.

30-Day Results

I've been using it myself for 30 days. Here are the numbers:

87
Follow-ups sent automatically
6
Deals re-opened by AI follow-ups
4.5h
Daily time saved
$0
Additional software cost

The 6 deals that re-opened? That's about $15,000 in pipeline that would have gone dark. The AI found conversations I had marked as "no response" and sent follow-ups that felt human. Not "Hey, just checking in" fluff — actual value-add messages that referenced specific threads.

What I Learned

1. Users don't want AI to draft. They want AI to execute.

Every other AI email tool shows you a drafted response and asks "Send?" That's still a human in the loop. HalfDay removes the loop entirely. You set rules, AI acts.

2. The "morning briefing" is the killer feature.

I thought inbox triage would be the main value. Wrong. The morning briefing — getting a 3-bullet summary of what moved overnight — is what makes it worth it. I don't even check my email before 9am anymore. I just read the briefing and act on the 3 things that matter.

3. Demo mode is essential.

People are skeptical of AI with their email. Giving them a sandbox to see how HalfDay thinks — without exposing real data — converts 3x better than just asking them to connect Gmail.
